Ooranga Toy Library

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who runs the library?

We are a not-for-profit organisation, run by a voluntary committee who oversees the daily operation of the Ooranga organisation as a whole, in conjunction with our management team within the Ooranga office.  We have a paid toy librarian who is responsible for all operations within the library and is aided by the adminstration staff during any absence.

Who is responsible for cleaning the toys?

Unclean toy charge $5 per toy.  Members will receive 2 warning emails prior to the first charge.

It is the members responsibilty to clean toys before returning to the toy library.  We recommend a solution of warm soapy water and disinfectant.  Do not immerse electronic toys or toys with stickers.  For timber toys we recommend a light wipe over and dry off.  Allow sufficient drying time before placing in bags/boxes to prevent mould from forming.  Keep an eye out for spiders making their home on outdoor toys and spray with insect killer.  In winter and after rain, grass and mud will stick to toys, please hose thoroughly before cleaning and returning.  Do not allow children to eat when playing with toy library resources, particularly the puzzles or boardgames.

What happens if we lose a piece to a toy?

Lost piece charge - varied.

If you lose a piece you will be asked to try and find the piece - a period of time will be allowed for this.  The missing piece will be noted on the toy.  If the toy is still functional you may be charged for a replacement piece.  If the missing piece deems the toy unusable, you will be asked to pay for its replacement.

What happens if my child breaks a toy?

For toys 12 months old or less - full replacement cost will be charged.

For toys 12 months old to 3 years - 50% of purchase price will be charged.

Consideration will be given to the age and design of the toy and any previous wear and tear when applying this fee.

How many toys may I hire?

Toys are limited to a maximum of 6 per family.

Can my children stay and play in The Toy Library?

While we are happy for the children to explore the shelves while in the library, we request that children do not play with toys while in the library where possible.  Our space is very limited and contents can easily be mixed up.
